Yvonne on a tiny tiny couch

You can now watch all six episodes of Yvonne Tiernan’s excellent online series ‘The Couch’ on the RTE Player. I had the pleasure of cutting the series during the summer and its a lovely project that I’m very proud of. The series was directed by Anna Rodgers (national treasure Anna Rodgers) and produced by David Power.

The six episodes deal with ‘Beauty’, ‘Love’, ‘Motherhood’, ‘Mums & Dads’, ‘Work/Life‘ and ‘Wisdom’.

YOU CAN WATCH THE SERIES HERE

The Couch is a female driven weekly conversation series that captures women’s unique ability to engage in an open exchange of stories, intimacies, life lessons and wisdom. Surprisingly frank and honest, each episode deals with the universal themes of life with well-known Irish and international women.

The series is supported by a wonderful lifestyle website

With over 20 years experience in the entertainment industry, Yvonne (43) has assembled an impressive guest-list for her very first solo television project. Guests in this opening six-part series include Perfumier Jo Malone, Comedy Writer & Actress Sharon Horgan, Singer Songwriter Eddi Reader, TV Producer & Presenter Maia Dunphy, Guardian of Castle Leslie Sammy Leslie, Broadcaster Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and Model & Agent Celia Holman-Lee.

A long time fan of interview shows, Yvonne identified a gap in the Irish television landscape for an interview series with a difference, one that provides a forum for women to talk about the challenges they face on a daily basis:

“I’m a Mum, a Wife, a Sister, a Daughter and a Friend too and I know I don’t have all of the answers. So, I am interested in finding out how other women are dealing with the same challenges. I want ‘The Couch’ to represent the conversations us women are having everyday so as you can imagine there are lots of tears and laughter on set. As a big fan of old school interview shows this whole experience is a kind of dream come true for me and I hope it’s the beginning of a whole new chapter in my career.”

DONT MISS your chance to see THE LAST DAYS OF PETER BERGMANN

The Last Days of Peter Bergmann is one of the things I’m most proud of from all the different things I’ve had the pleasure of cutting. The Film has had a tremendous life on the festival circuit, getting selected for Sundance, Winning awards at IFI Stranger than Fiction, Nashville, Melbourne, Camden and elsewhere, Qualifying for the Oscars twice and of course prompting a lot of debate. The film’s director Ciaran Cassidy has had a wonderful year of jetting around the world presenting the film.

Now, tonight, Irish audiences will finally get a chance to see the film as it is showing on RTE1 at 11:20.

IT IS AVAILABLE TO WATCH ONLINE HERE

Watch it, Record it, just don’t miss it.

The Last days of Peter Bergmann tells the story of a man calling himself Peter Bergmann who arrived in Sligo Town in the summer of 2009. Over his final three days, he went to great lengths to make sure that no one would ever know who he was or where he came from.

The Film has twice qualified for Oscar eligibility and on winning the prestigious Melbourne IFF award, the jury had this to say about it.

“Ciaran Cassidy taps the voyeur in all of us with his masterful appropriation of hours of compelling CCTV footage that track a tantalising incomplete picture of The Last Days of Peter Bergmann. Coupled with a series of compelling interviews, Cassidy manages to invert the mystery genre from whodunnit to why. Meticulously researched, this is a riveting ride that leaves the audience rooted to their seats as they act out the role of both spy and detective.”

Behind the Blackboard

I’ve been pretty lax about updating this blog in recent weeks so I’m going to add a few bits over the next few days about whats been going on. Its been a pretty hectic couple of weeks for me personally, moving house, getting married, honeymoon, crash back to the reality of working. In that time a lot has happened and I will deal with some of that in later posts.

In the meantime lets start with my appearance on the series finale of the quite excellent Second Captains live a few weeks back. In case you didn’t know my brother Ciarán is one of the shows presenters and as part of a sketch they were doing they were looking back at his early tv appearances. Several of those were on seminal kids quiz show Blackboard Jungle where he represented St.Jarlaths College Tuam, who were captained by yours truly. The piece went down a storm and I had great fun doing it.
Here it is…
