There are only 5 more days left for you to catch the series GAA USA on the TG4 player. I spent most of last winter cutting the series and was delighted with how it turned out.

If you want to watch the series and I think it’ll be worth your while, heres the link

The series went down really well and attracted lots of very positive feedback online. The series attracted huge numbers of people to the tg4 player, breaking all sorts of records. Heres some of the best reactions from twitter.

GAA USA starts tonight TG4 9:30

Over the past few months I’ve been working on a series which debuts tonight and i’m very excited about people finally getting the chance to see it. Its a cracking series with some great stories in it that I think people will really like.

‘GAA USA’, a new four part series produced by the IFTA winning Sónta Films which chronicles the largely unknown history of Gaelic games in the United States, will air on TG4 on Wednesday, March 18th at 9.30pm and continue for 4 weeks.

Presented by former All-Ireland winning Kerry captain and award-winning broadcaster Dara Ó Cinnéide, the series reveals the remarkable passion and resourcefulness of the men and women who brought Gaelic Games west across the Atlantic to the USA.

Last weekend we travelled to New York city to launch the series in the Irish Consulate in the company of the new GAA President. It was a great night and I’m very grateful to have gotten the invite to attend.

The series is a Sónta Production funded by TG4, and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and was produced by Éamonn Ó Cualáin and directed by Sean Ó Cualáin.

The DOP on the project was Réamonn Mac Donnacha, Location sound was by Seamus Ó Flatharta, and it was edited by John Murphy with Darragh Dukes doing the music.

In the series, Dara Ó Cinnéide travels across the US to GAA clubs in Boston, Chicago, New York, Milwaukee, and San Diego, to give the audience an entirely new perspective on the Irish emigrant experience as lived through Gaelic games. In conversation with Irish people who have made a home for themselves in the States, he encounters an enduring love of Gaelic games, a deep respect for their past and a great hope for their future. He also explores the struggle of the guardians of Gaelic Games over the years to ensure the survival of the GAA.

Presenter Dara Ó Cinnéide said: ‘Gaelic games in America have always held a strange fascination for me. There were so many furrows to be ploughed and stories to be told that I was drawn to the series from the outset. Like many other Gaels, I have a particular affinity with the Unites States because generations of relatives and neighbours from home have immigrated to its cities and neighbourhoods.’

‘Their story was worth recounting and, having played there I believe I had a particular insight that would help me present that story.’

Ceoldrama is repeated on TG4 today

Good news everybody, An Ceoldráma, the series I cut last year for director Colm Bairéad is being repeated on TG4 in the run up to christmas. The series runs for 4 weeks with the first episode airing this tea time at 5:55 (Dec 3rd). If you missed it the first time out, nows your chance to see it. Its a really lovely series and it is in my opinion among the best things I’ve had the pleasure of working on.
The series was nominated for 3 IFTA’s last year, Best Director, Best Youth and The Irish Language Award.

Here’s a wee trailer for the series to give you an idea what its like

Ceoldrama Episode 3 Airs Tonight

This is just a reminder that episode 3 of Ceoldrama will broadcast tonight on TG4 at 8. Please do tune in…

I’ve previously said that I’m very proud of this series and I think that tonights episode is probably the pick of the bunch in terms of the editing challenges we faced. The previous 2 episodes focused on getting to know 2 schools in each episode. In tonights episode its moving the story along for all 4 schools but still having enough backstory in the show so that people who haven’t seen the first 2 will also enjoy it. I think it worked out very well and I’d love to hear what people thought of it.

People have said really nice things about the first two episodes and if you want to catch up on them, you can watch them on the TG4 player here

King of the travellers TV3 at 9

The film ‘King of the Travellers’ which I edited back in 2012 will have its Irish TV premiere Tuesday at 9pm on TV3. Check it out. Here’s the trailer

Grounded in the traditions of the Irish Traveller community, King of the Travellers follows John Paul Moorehouse on his destructive quest to uncover the truth about his father’s killer. John Paul’s desire for revenge is swayed as he falls for Winnie Power, the daughter of the man he suspects killed his father.
To ensure authenticity in the film, Travellers were cast to play the Traveller roles, many of whom had never acted before. With a nod to the Sergio Leone and John Ford Westerns of the last century, King of the Travellers is an explosive contemporary take on Traveller life.

The Film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in July 2012 and went on to be nominated for an IFTA for Costume design. It also screened at film festivals in the States and in Scandinavia.

The Film opened in Irish Cinema’s on April 19th 2013 and stayed in the cinema for a remarkable 4 weeks.
