This gig hitting Dublin tonight promises to be something special
Mikey and the Scallywags play Whelans tonight. Don’t miss it.

About 2 months ago I went to see these lads play in the Grand Social. They put on quite a show and a mighty night was had by all. They return to dublin tonight and play Whelans as support to their friend from the UK John Fairhurst.

About Mikey & the Scallywags

Formed out of creative and financial necessity in June of 2010, Mikey and the Scallywags met busking on the streets of Galway and are still based on the West Coast of Ireland. Renowned for their energetic and engaging live performances, the initial quartet of guitar, banjo, fiddle and double bass were joined by drums and keys to create a melodic and beat driven sound with elements of bluegrass, gypsy, hip-hop and swing.

Although a busking project initially, two months later they left the streets to perform at the Galway Arts festival 2010, followed a month later by their second gig at the Electric Picnic 2010. The Scallywags began touring all over Ireland and haven’t stopped since.

Now with two highly successful years under their belts, 1,700 copies of the Living in the Light Ep sold and a fortune spent on new tyres, Mikey and the Scallywags can be found at festivals and venues across Ireland this Summer.

About John Fairhurst

There are few musicians in this world that live, eat and sleep real music and few musicians are capable of taking you back in time, to the very birth of a genre.

John Fairhurst truly epitomises the modern day wandering blues man. Stories of hunger, listlessness, roaming and reckless abandon are just a prelude to John’s amazing story, something that can only be fully understood in the presence of the man.

John has now teamed up with Joe Strouzer, a young man pushing the boundaries of modern harmonica playing. Weaving complex layers and lines through cutting edge effects pedals and traditional valve amps, the John Fairhurst Band kick out epic Indian-raga infused foot stomping blues that’ll make your bones rattle.

Hailed by many as the best guitarist in Britain and nominated in The British Blues Awards 2013 for Best Original Song. From backstreet Bangkok blues bars to huge international festival stages, from busking the streets of the world to sold out shows in Paris and London, John returns to Ireland this July… Catch him while you can!
