I spent much of this summer editing this 3 part series on the history of Irish golf and it finally begins it run tonight. Over the course of the next 3 nights ‘From Tee to Green’ screens on the free-to-air Setanta Ireland in the lead up to this years Ryder Cup:
Tuesday Sept 23rd at 9pm – Episode one
Wednesday Sept 24th at 9:45pm – Episode two
Thursday Sept 25th at 9pm – Episode three
Narrated by film actor Aidan Quinn, employed state of the art cinematic filming techniques and extraordinary never-before-seen archive discoveries to weave together the story of how golf reached Ireland, and how it has expanded to the point where golfers from this island have won more major championships in the last seven years than any other country, bar the United States.
Each episode details a specific era in the history of the sport on this island, and shows how golf has mirrored Ireland’s ever changing social and economic climate. The series looks at how the island’s geography is perfect for golf and traces the growth of golfing tourism and its importance to Ireland.
And of course, there are great champions, from the very beginning of the game, right the way
through to the likes of Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington. The archive, from as far back as the 1890s, was uncovered from a variety of obscure sources and personal collections and painstakingly transferred from its original film sources.
The series was made by multiple IFTA winning director Andrew Gallimore (In Sunshine Or In
Shadow) and producer Rory Dungan (The Gentleman Prizefighter) for Tilted Pictures Ltd, and was
funded by the BAI Sound And Vision Scheme and Setanta Ireland.
Contributors on the series range from professional golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Padraig
Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke, to journalists, broadcasters and historians such
as Dermot Gilleece, Philip Reid, Charlie Mulqueen and Shane O’Donoghue.
Director – Andrew Gallimore
Producer – Rory Dungan
Good production and nice editing, well done to all involved.
